(The family have requested that we use “Unc” until after the funeral, in keeping with their cultural protocols during Sorry Business.
We were sad to hear of the recent passing of a friend of NATSICC - Unc. Unc, a Yuin man, tirelessly served his community and his people and was a valued member of the Minto Aboriginal Catholic Ministry.
In the words of community leader Ann Madsen:
“Our beautiful Unc. has passed away. He was one of the most genuine people anyone could ever meet. He was an integral part of Aboriginal Catholic Ministry and Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group. His support for Catholic schools was unwavering and he had a very special bond with John Therry Catholic College, where Cherrylle and Brian Nau had worked with him to build the knowledge and pride the students of the school demonstrate regularly at functions and celebrations.
One of his many awards was, of course, to be one of your 2019 Deacon Boniface Perdjert Award for Elders.
The community of Campbelltown/Minto and the South Coast, have lost one of their champions. Of course, we know Sr Kerry has lost one of her greatest friends.
May he be enjoying a nice cuppa and a yarn with those that have gone before.”
Rest Easy Unc.
