Bernice Fischer is a proud Ngugi,Nunukul and Goenpul woman of the Quandamooka people, with strong ties to Ngugi, Nunukul and Goenpul families of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Baptised at the former Martin de Porres House, her Catholic faith was deeply shaped by her mother, Rose Borey — a respected Catholic Elder who was part of the delegation that met Pope John Paul II in 1986. Although living on the mainland, Bernice maintains strong connections to Minjerribah and her community.
For the past eight years, Bernice has led Liturgy Services on Minjerribah within Star of the Sea Parish, Cleveland, supporting parish life when Mass was limited. She works closely with clergy and the parish office, assisting with communication, coordination and safeguarding. Bernice brings faithful leadership, cultural strength and community commitment to her role as Queensland Councillor for NATSICC.
