Liturgical Resources: 40th Anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s Alice Springs Address
To mark the 40th anniversary of Pope St John Paul II’s historic address to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples on 29 November 1986, NATSICC and the Bishops Commission for Liturgy have developed a special collection of liturgical resources.
Titled The Church Jesus Calls Us to Be, these resources offer parishes and communities practical suggestions for commemorating this significant anniversary, which coincides with the First Sunday of Advent on 29 November 2026.
Including prayers, reflections, cultural elements and music suggestions, the resources invite Catholics across Australia to reflect on the Pope’s enduring message and continue building a Church that joyfully welcomes and celebrates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
