Youth Leadership Gathering: 13-16 May 2010 in Brisbane

Background

The current NATSICC Council was appointed at the Brisbane National Assembly in September this year and has shown a strong commitment to nurturing youth in the Church. Councillors have, in response, formulated a Youth Gathering that will focus of developing leadership skills and encouraging self esteem in Indigenous Catholic Youth.

Content

• Enhancing Self Esteem and Confidence
• Learning to understand the Language of the Bible and Scripture and the Catholic Tradition
• Work-shopping public speaking and presentation skills

The evangelical aspect of the Gathering will be concerned with ways to bring Indigenous Youth back to Mass and evaluating successful methods employed by other denominations.

The other facet of the Gathering will focus on the use of technology to maintain and form networks. NATSICC’s experience with youth is that there is abundant enthusiasm during face to face events but it soon disappears once distance becomes an issue.

The use of programs such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter will be discussed as will the inherent dangers of internet communications websites.

The Program and promotional flyer can be downloaded here.

Registration for the Gathering costs $350 and includes 3 nights accommodation, all meals, workshops and workshop materials, entry to a Brisbane Broncos game and a cultural tour. The Registation can be completed electronically and emailed using this form. The full Registration booklet can be downloaded and printed here.

Location

NATSICC has formed a partnership with the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane. The majority of the Gathering will take place at their Banyo Campus.
