NATSICC meets with the Bishops Committee for Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander People twice per year. these
meetings occur in Sydney and coincide with the Bishops Conference
meetings. Bishop Saunders of Broome is the Chairman of the Committee,
Bishop Heenan of Rockhampton is Secretary. Bishop Prowse of Melbourne
was appointed in 2003 replacing Bishop Hilton Deakin.
2002
saw the birth of our shared 'Spirituality Days'. These days are
scheduled before the official meeting and allow NATSICC and the
Bishops Committee to share a deeper relationship that extends beyond
the formal 'business' aspect.
The
Bishops have visited the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry's at La Perouse
and Penrith. Both groups were wonderful hosts and the days have
been enjoyed by all involved. It is hoped that this concept will
continue to grow in the future.
Most
recently the Bishops and NATSICC held an Ecumenical service at 'The
Block' in Redfern. Attended by many locals and other denominations,
the healing service was seen as timely, with recent events in mind.
