The 26 of January is a time that causes angst and despair for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council calls for the Government to consider moving Australia Day to May 27 - the day where Aboriginal people where recognised as citizens via the vote of Australians themselves. This symbolises unity and mutual respect whilst providing a strong foundation for moving forward as a country.
The sad and alarming rate of youth suicide in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities was a key issue raised by the delegation at the 2018 NATSICC Assembly in Perth.
NATSICC Youth Councilor Sabrina Ann Stevens echoed the concern of the delegation and expressed a desire to better support young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on their journeys. Click below for the full article.
NATSICC is very pleased to announce that the category winners for the Service to Community Awards have been decided.
It was heartening to receive such a large number of nominations - an indication of the wonderful work being done nationally in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ministry.
